World of Warcraft Dragonflight has a plethora of ways for you to progress your character. You can go on raids, do Mythic + dungeons, and enjoy PvP combat with other players. The Dragonflight expansion has brought tons of new content for us to enjoy, such as new zones, more ways to farm WoW gold and the like. But besides new mechanics, it also brought over several returning features, such as the Valor Points.
If you already have experience playing Shadowlands, you should know how Valor Points work. But if you’re not, don’t worry—because in this guide, we’ll discuss how you can farm Valor Points and use them to upgrade your Mythic+ gear.
What Are Valor Points?
Valor Points are a currency you can earn in World of Warcraft Dragonflight. You can use it to upgrade the Mythic+gear you earn from running dungeon keys. The currency was initially re-added to the Shadowlands expansion to help players gear up. And now, it’s continuing in Dragonflight. You can’t use your WoW gold here; Valor Points are what you’ll need to power up your current build.
Farming Valor Points
You can earn Valor Points by completing Mythic+ dungeons. Completing a dungeon will give you 135 Valor, no matter its keystone level. This is the only way to earn Valor Points in the game. If you’re part of a dungeon group that has a Mythic+ rating, you can receive an extra 65 Valor Points.
During the first season of Dragonflight, you could grind out Mythic+ dungeons to earn Valor Points. However, a weekly cap allowed you to only earn a max of 1,500 Valor in the first week of Dragonflight Season 1. Then, for the following weeks, you could earn an additional 750 Valor on top of the 1,500. This limitation is by character—not by account. If you spend all your Valor, you can’t farm 1,500 Valor Points (or whatever your cap is) again to reacquire it. When you’ve earned your weekly amount, you can’t farm any Valor anymore.
Thankfully, the cap for Valor Points has been removed by Blizzard as of February 14, 2023. Now, you can grind to your heart’s content in the low-level Mythic+ dungeons to upgrade all your best-in-slot gears to the max item level.
Shopping Using Valor
Now that you’ve accumulated quite a chunky amount of Valor, it’s time to use it. You can head straight to Corxian in Valdrakken, near the Gladiator’s Refuge. Here, you can upgrade any eligible gear you might have gotten from the Mythic+ dungeons. Items obtained from the Great Vault of Mythic+ dungeons are ranked 1 to 13. Every time you upgrade an item’s rank, its item level and stats increase. As of now, Dragonflight’s item level span from 367 to 415.
There’s a maximum number of times you can upgrade your gear, so you must determine which stat and gear combination works best for your build. For example, you want to prioritize items that fit your character. Note that for items that are Rank 7 (item level 395 or above), your character must have reached a certain Mythic+ Rating to upgrade those types of gear.
Upgrading Your Mythic+ Gear
You’ll need Valor Points to upgrade your Mythic+ gear, and the amount you need to do so depends on the type of armor it occupies. Let’s examine the amount of Valor needed to upgrade a gear’s level according to its type.
- 250 Valor – Cloaks, Bracers, Rings, Off-Hands, Necks, Shields
- 400 Valor – Trinkets, Shoulders, Boots, Gloves, Belts
- 475 Valor – Legs, Helms, Chests
- 500 Valor – One-Handed Strength Weapons, One-Handed Agility Weapons
- 750 Valor – One-Handed Intellect Weapons
- 1,000 Valor – Two-Handed Weapons
Requirements to Upgrade Certain Valor Ranks
As previously said, upgrading your gear to higher levels requires you to have a couple of prerequisites checked off first. There are a total of 13 Valor upgrade tiers available to purchase. The first six tiers don’t require you anything, but beyond that, there will be conditions that must be met if you want to progress your Mythic+ items further.
- Item Level 367 to 394 – None (tiers 1 to 6)
- Item Level 365 to 397 – Mythic+ Rating of 600 (tier 7)
- Item level 398 to 404 – Mythic + Rating of 1,000 (tiers 8 and 9)
- Item Level 405 to 411 – Mythic+ Rating of 1,400 to 1,700 (tiers 10 and 11)
- Item Level 412 to 414 – Mythic+ Rating of 2,000 (tier 12)
- Item Level 415 – Mythic+ Rating of 2,400 (tier 13)
Save Those Points
The early season can be cruel for players back then, but now that the Valor Points cap is no more, you won’t have to make the extra effort to save up those points and upgrade your current best-in-slot items. We recommend running lower keys in the Mythic+ dungeons if you’re not rushing to gear up. That way, you won’t find the process of getting the best gear too difficult where you have to get WoW boosting.
