Is a quadrant shower right for me?

Looking to install a new shower?

Whether you’re sacrificing the bathtub in favour of a shower to save space or money on your energy bills, or you’re looking to add a touch of luxury to your bathroom, quadrant showers are one of the most popular options in the UK.

But what is a quadrant shower and how can you benefit from one of these shower enclosures?

Read on to find out.

What is a quadrant shower?

Quadrant shower enclosures are a fabulous alternative to traditional square or rectangular-shaped cubicles.

They feature a curved front and are designed to fit snugly into the corner of your bathroom or en-suite. Most come with hinged or sliding doors that fit in with the unique curvature, too.

What are the benefits of a quadrant shower enclosure?

Save space

The front of a quadrant shower is curved, meaning it won’t protrude as far into your room as a square or rectangular one would – making it perfect for smaller bathrooms.

Whilst a quadrant will fit neatly into a corner, taking up less space at the front and back, you’ll still be able to move comfortably from side to side when showering.

Save time cleaning

Unlike a traditional square or rectangular-shaped shower enclosure that has two panes of glass (plus the doors), you’ll usually only have the curved face of a quadrant to clean.

Whilst quadrants are quicker and easier to maintain, some come with easy clean glass which helps to repel soap, dirt and limescale – ensuring a sparkling finish.

Complement your bathroom layout

If your bathroom has an unusual layout, installing utilities can be a bit of a challenge, to say the least.

However, a quadrant shower enclosure and tray can be installed in the corner of your room to maximise the use of space. Or it can be positioned against a flat wall – leaving you with ample space for a basin, toilet or vanity unit.

Provide a softer look

The shapes used in the bathroom can (and do) dictate style.

For example, if you have a round basin and toilet, the quadrant’s curved frontage will offer a softer, more aesthetically pleasing appearance than a square enclosure with straight, angular lines. It works well in both traditional and contemporary style suites.

Ensure comfort

The shape of these shower enclosures creates a roomier feel without the doors opening into the bathroom space. This ultimately allows for a comfortable showering experience without sacrificing style.

If you have a little extra space in your bathroom, an offset quadrant is ideal. These have the same curved style front but one side is extended to give you more room to enjoy your shower.

Ready to buy a quadrant shower enclosure?

Quadrant shower cubicles come in an array of sizes – ranging from 760mm to 1000mm.

Most quadrants have one or two sliding doors that glide smoothly and quietly along tracks at the top and bottom. Although they won’t take up any additional space in your bathroom, single-door quadrants tend to be more expensive due to them having a single piece of larger curved glass.

Some shower enclosures are equipped with a shower tray and door seals to keep water firmly inside, but it’s worth double-checking before you commit to buying one. If the enclosure you like doesn’t include a tray, you’ll need to purchase one separately from a reputable supplier, like The Plumbline.
